Last spring, Kenji, a Japanese boy, came to Tunisia with his parents. He is Youssef’s pen friend. They travelled from Tokyo to Tunis by plane. Then they took the train to Mahdia, a beautiful city on the east coast, where Youssef lives.

When Kenji met Youssef’s family, he bowed. Youssef’s father shook his hand, and his grandmother kissed him on both cheeks! Everyone laughed. The next day, the two boys visited the amphitheatre of El Jem. It is one of the most famous monuments in the world. Kenji said, ‘It’s bigger than I thought!’

In the evening, the family went to the old port and ate grilled fish. Before leaving, Kenji gave Youssef a little paper bird. Now the boys write e-mails every week, and Youssef wants to travel to Japan one day.

Dear Emma, next summer, I will take you to Tozeur. It is a beautiful town in the south-west of Tunisia, near the desert. We will travel there by train because it is cheaper than the plane and we can see the countryside. In Tozeur, we will visit the old town with its yellow brick houses and the big palm oasis. We will also ride camels in the desert at sunset. For lunch, we will eat couscous and sweet dates. I am sure you will love this town!

One good example among many: compare, don’t copy.
